Protection of public health with the establishment of qualitative health care is one of the main policies of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan. Specifically, in the field of maternal and child health care, various government programs are being developed together with development partners and international organizations. “Maternal and Child Health Integrated Project (Asian Development Bank Grant – 0627 TJ (SF)) under the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Republic of Tajikistan is one of those initiatives, aimed at improving the quality of medical services to mothers and children.
With the purpose of timely implementation of the “Maternal and Child Health Integrated Project” a meeting was held between the ADB technical assistance group “М4Н” with a representative of IHME at the University of Washington, Mohsen Naghavi and the officials of the Ministry of health and social protection of population of the Republic of Tajikistan.
At the end of the meeting the parties have started a discussion on Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation of the University Washington, related to data collection on health statistics, data usage for decision-making, evaluation, advocacy and policy development.
It should be noted that, the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation of the University of Washington is one of the best institutions in the field of data collection and health information. The Institute has fruitful cooperation with most countries of the world, and therefore, has made a significant progress in the collection of medical statistics. For the information, the implementation of the project is aimed at improving the level of quality of medical services to mothers and children in pilot districts, such as; Rasht, Faizobod and Shamsiddin Shohin.
In addition, it was stressed at the meeting that with the involvement of international organizations and institutions, year by year the provision of medical services to mothers and children is improving, and this initiative comes from the overall support of the Founder of Peace and National Unity the Leader of the Nation, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, for the health sector.
