“Maternal and Child Health Integrated Care” project has been presented in pilot districts

From March 30 to April 2 of this year there was an official presentation of the “Maternal and Child Health Integrated Care” (MCHIC) project (Grant of Asian Development Bank 0627-TAJ (SF)) under the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population (MOHSPP) of the Republic of Tajikistan in the pilot districts: Rasht and Faizobod DRS and Shamsiddin Shohin of Khatlon area. The working group of the project headed by the First Deputy Minister of Health and Social Protection of the Population of the Republic of Tajikistan- Umarzoda Saida Ghairat and Project Administration Group (PAG) Manager- Mahmudzoda Isfandiyor Safari visited the mentioned districts.

During its business trip, PAG visited the mentioned districts and informed the population about the goals and objectives of the MCHIC project.

The presentation was attended by: First Deputy Minister of Health and Social Protection of the Population of the Republic of Tajikistan- Umarzoda Saida Ghairat, Chairman of the Executive Body of the Fayzobod District – Rajabzoda Mirali, Chairman of the Executive Body of the Rasht District – Mukimi Rakhimjon, Chairman of the Executive Body of Shamsiddin Shohin District – Zarifzoda Pochokhon, MCHIC PAG Manager – I. Mahmudzoda, heads of health facilities of the pilot districts, heads of Jamoats of pilot districts and personnel of PAG.

During the meeting, officials noted that the implementation of this project has a number of goals that cover the current priorities of the health sector and contribute to strengthening the sector’s policy in the provision of medical services to mothers and children. One of the main goal of the project is the construction and reconstruction of central district hospitals and district medical centers in the pilot districts of Rasht, Fayzobod and Shamsiddin Shokhin by providing them with modern equipment and medical furniture, which will contribute to improving the health infrastructure in these areas.

The project will also strengthen human resources through the development of planning and staffing strategies for the pilot areas of the project, including training of personnel in primary health care facilities and maternity hospitals in pilot centers and educational institutions. Development of a case-based financing mechanism in the hospitals of the mentioned districts.

It should be noted that the implementation of this project began on March 29, 2019 and is scheduled for August 31, 2025 and will be implemented in medical institutions of the Rasht and Fayzobod districts of republican subordination and Shamsiddin Shоhin of Khatlon area.

The total budget of the project is 35.2 million US dollars, of which 3.2 million US dollars is the contribution of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan.

  The project consists of four implementation parts, including:

  1. Improve integrated quality maternal and child health services in pilot districts;
  2. Improve maternal and child health services and improve infrastructure;
  3. Improving maternal and child health knowledge and health-oriented behavior in the pilot districts; and
  4. Project management and evaluation.

It was also noted that in order to ensure the implementation of various parts of the project, on October 25, 2019, an agreement was signed between the MOHSPP of the Republic of Tajikistan and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) on the implementation of component 1 and 3. The work in this area has already begun.

In turn, representatives of the pilot districts of the Project thanked the Founder of Peace and National Unity, the Leader of the Nation, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency- Emomali Rahmon for the attention paid to the country’s health sector.
